Spanish Vogue ‘Living’ editor Leticia Echavarri knew of Rachel’s work from her features in UK Vogue and other fashion publications. When they started planning their 20th Anniversary issue she commissioned Rachel to design them a spectacular cake for this special collector’s issue. Leticia wanted to feature the unique anniversary cake as a full page photo opening the Living section alongside a second page with an editorial feature on Rachel’s work.

After extensive research Rachel presented the Vogue team with a collection of six different design ideas in sketch form. They chose a large and elaborate design titled ‘The Golden Spiral Of Couture’. The top piece of the cake features a sugar fashion model posing on spiral stair case, it was inspired by a Tim Walker Vogue shoot with Lily Cole.

Vogue commissioned Sean Myers to photograph the cake for this feature.

Pâtisserie artist Rachel Mount was commissioned to create one of her elaborate edible sculptures for Vogue's 90th birthday. A lemon buttercream sponge decorated in hand-modelled sugar, the sculpture reflects the Vogue team's twin passions: fashion and cake.

After viewing Rachel’s exhibition at Sotheby’s Alexandra Shulman commissioned Rachel to design Vogue their 90th birthday cake. Rachel embraced the challenge and after days of research came up with several design sketches. They chose one depicting 90 years of couture models stepping out of sugar magazine pages. After sampling the cake flavours they chose lemon zest as their cake centre. The cake was made in two and three tier versions. The two tier version was used for the full page photo spread on p105 of the collector’s issue. Alexandra liked the photo of the cake so much that she delighted Rachel by using it as the cover of their party invitation card.

Their glittering fashionista party was held in November at the Serpentine Gallery. Rachel’s three tier version of the design was the much commented on party centrepiece. View the cake on Vogue TV's 90th birthday party video.

The feature about Rachel's work in UK Vogue's August issue inspired their sister magazine Japanese Vogue to also feature her designs.

Mount has become the pâtissière du jour at celebrity weddings and A-list parties...
Rachel Mount is a remarkable confectionery artist, baking exquisite sugary creations that are more sculpture than sponge cake.

Bringing new meaning to the saying 'Let them eat cake', confectionery artist Rachel Mount's edible sculptures make the humble craft of baking into an art form.

In 2006 Rachel produced a new range of fashion inspired cake designs and was thrilled that Vogue's Living Editor Vanessa Barneby chose to profile this new work in a one and a half page editorial feature. Rachel’s tumbling sugar shoe cake had caught Vanessa’s eye and she asked if Vogue could have press exclusive on featuring of this design They required a second image for the feature and asked Rachel to design a Vogue theme cake especially for them. Inspired by vintage Vogue the large elaborate design depicted 1950’s fashion house couture models.
