Shopping around for the right cake design.

Shopping for the right cake, especially for your wedding, can be a daunting task as there are lots of cake makers who all have varying styles and standards of work. Here are some helpful tips.

  1. Clients should always view a cake maker's portfolio and check that the designs in it are all their own work. That way you can recognise the producers own particular craft skill and style. It is important to pick someone who has the correct expertise to produce your chosen design as cake making is a highly specialised and challenging craft. Orders are produced to tight deadline which leaves little room for error.
  2. If you are ordering a bespoke design always expect an inclusive service of detailed design sketches fully illustrating your design requirements.
  3. Ask to sample the supplier’s range of cake centres.
  4. As well as their own design portfolio, a good cake maker will be sure to have portfolios with previous clients' letters of recommendation and press cuttings.
